Holy Week Services
Holy Week refers to the events of the last week of Jesus’ earthly ministry. In various liturgies we recall the events from Our Lord’s entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, through the darkness of the crucifixion on Good Friday and then into the mystery of the resurrection on Holy Saturday and Easter Day.
Palm Sunday (April 5)
8:30 am. Said Eucharist
10:30 am. Choral Eucharist and Palm Procession
We recall the events of the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and his challenge of the Temple authorities
Monday
730 pm. Solemn Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer
Tuesday
7:30 pm. Choral Eucharist
Wednesday
7:30 pm. Stations of the Cross
Maundy Thursday. (April 9)
7:30 pm. Choral Eucharist, followed by the Stripping of the Altar
We recall the night Jesus meet with his disciples in the Upper Room and gave them the new commandment of love, and left them and us the lasting remembrance of the Eucharist. Then the altar is solemnly stripped bare, commemorating the betrayal by Judas and the desertion of the disciples. This service ends in disarray and on a sad note.
Good Friday (April 10)
3:00 pm. The Solemn Liturgy
The events of the Jesus’s arrest, mock trial and crucifixion are recalled
Holy Saturday
9:00 pm. The Great Vigil of Easter, followed with the first Eucharist of Easter
We hear the stories of God’s actions in history from creation to the exodus and then into the prophecies of restoration with a Messiah. This service begins in darkness, continues with candlelight and ends in full light. Not to be missed.
EASTER DAY. (April 12)
8:30 a.m. Choral Eucharist
10:30 a.m. Choral Eucharist
